Local Resources and Referrals

General Approach

  1. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):

CBT and local therapists are a great place to start. Ask your patient to call their insurance company to find out who’s in network. Patients do not have to disclose that they are being referred for alcohol.

  2. Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)

EAPs are confidential for most employees. If your patient has an EAP to refer to, the resources are often free. CBT may be available through their employer.

  3. Health System Resources

If you’re part of a health system, internal referrals to counseling programs may be preferred. Please use specific substance abuse counseling services, if available.

  4. Local Resources (below)

We have compiled verified resources in each region of VA below. These are organized by domain; feel free to click through to identify counselors, peer resources, housing, detox, housing, and other facilities to help with AUD.
